University of Tasmania: Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS)
The University of Tasmania (UTAS), Australia’s fourth-oldest institution, offers a vibrant academic environment with a globalized curriculum aimed at shaping future leaders. The Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS) supports international students by reducing tuition fees and making high-quality education accessible in a uniquely Tasmanian setting.
Scholarship Overview
- Award Value: 25% tuition fee reduction.
- Level of Study: Undergraduate and Postgraduate coursework degrees.
- Applicable Courses: All, except:
- Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine.
- AMC Seafaring courses.
- Bachelor of Dementia Care.
- Timeline: Application closes on December 18, 2024.
- Duration: Covers the entire duration of the program.
Eligibility Criteria
- General Requirements
- Must be an international student starting in the first year of their program in 2025.
- Must be enrolled full-time in an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate program.
- Must meet the minimum academic requirements for admission.
- Students at University of Tasmania-affiliated Transnational Education (TNE) partner institutions are not eligible.
- Cannot receive any other scholarships from the University of Tasmania or other sources.
- Academic Qualifications
- For undergraduate programs: Completion of a qualification equivalent to Australian Year 12.
- For postgraduate programs: A qualification equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree, with prerequisite subjects as specified.
- English Language Proficiency
- Students must meet the English language requirements for their course.
- Approved tests include IELTS, PTE Academic, TOEFL, and Cambridge English certifications.
- Some courses may have higher English proficiency requirements.

- Personal Identification:
- Passport copy.
- Birth certificate or national identity card.
- Academic Evidence:
- Transcripts.
- Proof of meeting entry qualifications.
- Additional Documents:
- Evidence of intended study.
- Parental consent (for under-18 applicants).
- Health insurance proof.
- Proof of financial capacity.
Application Process
- No Separate Application Needed:
The scholarship is automatically assessed during the International Student Application process. - Notification:
Successful applicants will receive details of their scholarship award in their Offer of Admission letter, along with the terms and conditions.
Terms and Conditions
- Scholarship Combination:
- Students cannot combine TIS with other tuition fee scholarships.
- The scholarship with the highest value is recommended.
- Academic Performance:
- Ongoing eligibility does not require reapplication.
- Only new students are assessed; current students are not reassessed based on UTAS performance.
- Additional Opportunities:
- Students not eligible for the TIS may qualify for other scholarships or fee reductions offered by UTAS.
